This post has been written for those considering attending an Essex ACES training session and has tournament paintball experience.
The Essex ACES paintball team train on a regular basis, we do that to improve our skills and this has taken a group of committed individuals and formed a strong, supportive team network.
Anyone considering joining may find coming down quite daunting, but I can assure you that the reception given to all new recruits is very supportive. There are a number of reasons for this, which I explain below:
1. We train and focus on skills development more many than other teamsIt's very simple; our training has an emphasis on team development, rather than just playing games against other teams
Our training sessions are there to develop our core skills, with a limited number of games towards the end of the session
It is not an excuse to turn up and shoot as much paint as possible
By developing our skills in this manner, we've seen the team achieve rapid progression both domestically and internationally
2. Our commitment levels are highTraining regularly requires a level of commitment that will frighten potential team members
However this level is a minimum for many of the team. Taking commitment to the team seriously is important
All team members agree to the team contract / code of conduct, that clearly sets out expectations. There is strong peer pressure within the team, which helps to police this
3. Having experience will allow you to compete for playing slotsEssex ACES operate a meritocracy, if you good enough to play in a position, then you'll be eligible for selection within your squad
Length of membership is not a deciding factor, it's a combination of your skills and commitment that will earn the playing slot
In summary, I hope that this post has reduced any concerns, and has encouraged you to consider attending. The key points to remember are that:
1. We train hard, to play hard
2. We expect commitment from all players
3. We play our best players, no exceptions!
If you are considering attending a training session, please post up in the Guest Area to be advised on when you could join us. This helps us plan our training sessions more effectively
